Creative Teaching is my passion

One of my favorite things in the school year is Dress Down Days, especially those for Special Events. I make a point to dress up for EVERY one of these events and work to get the kids excited to do so as well. I take pride in making learning FUN and silly, because that is what kids remember 🙂
Part of my creative personality comes from wanting to actually be an artist at an early early and thoroughly pursuing it until I realized I liked *creating* art more than teaching it. However, the fun I had exploring and creating new things followed me into teaching. It helps me think like a child and find the fun of even the “mundane” things we are sometimes required to teach.

  1. Yes I agree dress down days are the days I love to take advantage of I can get very comfortable and show off my Pre-K T-shirts. Art is very important I love to see the art work of others and especially the children, however I am far from an artist but no matter how bad my work looks to me, the children admire it. I always remind them to strive for progress not perfection.

    1. My kiddos know I love to draw, but I’m best at copying the pictures on the board. If I try to draw a car for example from memory the first words out of my mouth are always, “now, remember, Ms. Pyle doesn’t claim to be an artist but…..” and then I’ll attempt to draw it. I have found sometimes though that the sillier it ends up being, the more than remember it, maybe just because it became such a big discussion in the classroom. They all remeber gorilla starts with letter Gg because I *attempted* to draw one and it was literally the WORST thing I ever made 😛 However… it stuck in their minds and that’s what matters!

    1. Haha, don’t get met wrong, Betsy. I love crafting and art, but most definitely the majority of work I do is put forth into my classroom as well 😛 These next two weeks is a Travel week for our school and each classroom chooses a different country to teach their kids about and then on the last two days of next week we travel to some of the other classrooms and “host” the other classrooms where the kids will explain to the other rooms what we learned about in our country. Its one of my very favorite weeks but takes a lot of work to transform the classroom into the country you choose. But my classroom is my pride and joy and whatever I can do to make it enjoyable and memorable for the kids is SO worth it! =]
